Miracle Monday – Our why: Adam

Adam’s mom, Kelly, knew something was wrong when her happy-go-lucky 5-year-old had consistent low energy and had lost his sense of humor. After a series of tests, doctors at UC Davis Children’s Hospital ultimately determined that Adam had an auto immune disease of the gut, a condition that can be controlled but not cured. In addition to gastrointestinal distress, it can cause rashes, affect bone growth and lead to arthritis.

Initially managed by diet and medication, by 8 years old the disease had become so bad that Adam was hospitalized. His doctor suggested trying monthly infusion therapy.

Now 12 years old, Adam continues his treatment every month in between working on his go cart, riding his scooter, hitting golf balls and hanging out with friends. Oh, and dreaming big. He wants to be a nurse (like his “friends” at the hospital 😉).

Why do we do what we do at CMN at UC Davis? Kids like Adam.
