Miracle Monday – Our why: Nixon
Nixon was diagnosed with spina bifida. This condition occurs when spinal tissue fails to fuse properly during the early stages of pregnancy. This birth defect can lead to a range of lifelong cognitive, mobility, urinary and bowel disabilities.
Nixon’s parents turned to the UC Davis Children’s Hospital CuRe Trial: Cellular Therapy for In Utero Repair of Myelomeningocele. It is the world’s first spina bifida treatment combining fetal surgery with stem cells.
UC Davis surgeons applied a special stem cell patch to Nixon’s spinal cord on December 21, 2023. Now, a year later, Nixon is taking steps with help. Way to go, Nixon!
Why do we do what we do at CMN at UC Davis? Kids like Nixon.
