Lazer Radio’s annual fundraiser for local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN), including UC Davis Children’s Hospital, generated $92,764 during its three-day run in July. The Greater Sacramento-area market took the top spot, raising the most money across the radio network.

Part of the Lazer Broadcating network, Latino 97.9 FM is one of several area radio stations that participated in CMN Radiothon 2021.

The Lazer Syndicated Radiothon took place July 15-17, 2021 and featured local stations KGRB Lazer 94.3 FM/Regional Mexican and LMG Latino 97.9 FM/KBAA 103.3/Spanish Contemporary for the Sacramento region. KBBU Radio Lazer 93.9 FM/Regional Mexican raised money from Modesto and Stockton listeners.

Fundraising is typically dominated by Lazer’s radio stations in the Los Angeles area. But this year, the Sacramento Market was number one and funds raised also topped 2020 totals.

“At first, I didn’t know if we would get there because fundraising was down in every market, said Michelle Thompson, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals associate director. “But teamwork makes the dream work, and all I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Lazer Broadcasting carefully evaluated the risks of conducting the annual radiothon during the pandemic. The company was able to safely run the event and raise the needed donations for the many families who count on the medical services provided by CMN.

During the event, listeners heard heartwarming, inspirational stories of doctors, nurses and child life specialists who are making miracles happen for families at UC Davis Children’s Hospital, the only CMN hospital in the region. Programming consisted of patient stories, parent testimonials, and interviews to raise awareness of children’s needs. To date, Lazer Broadcasting has raised more than $10 million dollars for children.
